Laranjeiras is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Rio de Janeiro with settlers arriving in the 17th century with farms built where the famous river Carioca runs into the ocean.
Name Laranjeiras comes from the orange farms in the end of the neighbourhood.
In the neigbourhood lies alot of history including Palácio Guanabara which is headquarters of the state government and used to be residence if Prinsessa Isabel from 1860 to 1889. Also fluminense football club is located in this neighbourhood.
